EDUCATION Woodlands Elementary Wins National Award - What is the Blue Ribbon Award? The Blue Ribbon Award is a national award given by the US Department of Education. - How many Schools in America won the award? Out of approximately 120,000 schools nationwide, only 296 won the award, which is one of every 405 schools. - How many schools in Texas won the award? Out of 4,171 elementary schools in Texas, only 25 won the Blue Ribbon award, which is one out of every 166 schools! Woodlands Elementary was one of these winners! This is an amazing achievement by these students and proves what a high performing school it is! We should all remember this honor and congratulate the students, Amarillo Independent School District, their teachers, staff, and their parents because this is outstanding to have such a great school in Amarillo, Texas! TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) Test The 451 students at Woodlands Elementary scored extremely high on this very difficult test, and based on their continual high scores, the school has maintained an exemplary status since it opened in 1999! 3RD, 4TH, 5TH x 6TH GRADERS SCORED AS FOLLOWS: What else is happening at Woodlands Elementary? Science Club, Spanish Club, Art Club, Battle of the Books Competition, and Honors Choir which was recently rated #1 and Outstanding Elementary Choir at the Greater Southwest Music Festival for the last four consecutibe years! For the athletic kids, Woodlands has the Whippits Jump Rope Team which performs for area elementary schools, high school and college basketball games. |
